This procedure allows improving the shape and projection of the buttocks region.
The butt augmentation is an intervention that has been performed for many years. This procedure is technically well known as augmentation gluteoplasty and is instrumental in cases such as:
• Hypoplasia (lack of volume).
• Congenital atrophy (lack of development from the birth).
• Acquired atrophy (lack of development after trauma).
The shape of the Gluteal region
The shape of the Gluteal region is specified by the skin, the fat tissue and the gluteus mayor muscles. In the case of the lack of volume to these structures, this technique is ideal to replace the lost volume.
The implants are similar to breast implants but with the same particular characteristics such as greater density silicone cohesive gel and a thicker elastomer shell. This type of implant is tougher than the breast implant and, obviously, much more resistant, designed precisely to fit the region where it will be implanted. There are different shapes, profiles and coverings: round and oval, low or high, and the outer cover can be smooth or textured.
Depending on the desired shape the doctor will recommend the use of one or the other.
The dimensions of the butt (high, wide region and projection) are a fundamental point in establishing volume and type of implant to be used to obtain the desired result.
We will also evaluate the skin and the existing fat. In the case of excessive fat in this region it may be necessary or advisable for liposculpture to improve the result.
A clinical evaluation and clinical history will be assessed. The buttock augmentation procedure, like all aesthetic procedures, is an elective surgery. Before making this decision the risks and benefits in each individual case will be evaluated.
The procedure is conducted under general anesthesia in most cases; however it can also be carried out under sedation and peridural anesthesia. Within the consultation the surgeon will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each type of anesthesia.
The surgery generally last less than two hours during which a sub muscular pocket is made where the implants will be placed.
How will I feel after the procedure?
You will experience a sensation of tension while the skin adapts to the new size of the butt. The results will be visible immediately, although with time and the relaxation of tissue the new shape and volume will be more natural.
The sub muscular location reduces the risk of the contractile fibrous capsule (the hardening of the scar tissue that covers the implant) which can make it evident by giving a poor esthetic aspect. The postoperative care is quite simple; you will need a compressive garment during the first weeks.
You will be able to return to light activities within a period of three weeks minimum.
Should you experience a persistent fever, remarkable swelling of one or both sides you will need to contact your surgeon immediately.
The procedure
About one and a half hours.
Recovery
The recovery is very fast and the postoperative process as a whole is easily tolerated. Most patients can return to normal tasks after two weeks. Even so, the surgeon will recommend not to undertake activities that require physical effort during the first weeks. As the treated zone undergoes a certain inflammation period, it is reduced gradually, disappearing completely by the third month.
Will I be left with scars?
The incisions are made between both butts which are not visible at all.
Results
The result of the procedure is spectacular.

What can the complications be?
All surgical technique entail the risk of complications like undesired effects of the anesthesia, infections, swelling, haematoma, pain, alterations in the healing, etc. Buttocks implants have specific potential complications such as:
• Contracture of the scar tissue around implants (contractile fibrous capsule)
• Traumatic rupture of implants
• No more intramuscular injections in the buttocks (the implant will be damaged)
• Possibility of surgery for revision or replacement
